our approach

What it Means to be User-Friendly

As a founder-led business, we truly understand how important it is that when the time comes to step away from ownership, the business you worked so hard to build not only continues to see growth and opportunity, but your culture and legacy are honored and preserved.

Our user-friendly approach is based on collaboration and respect. We work alongside practice owners to build a custom acquisition path that’s based on their personal goals and the individual needs of the practice. Extending beyond the sale, our user-friendly approach means each practice within our network is free to continue to be themselves and do all the great things that make them unique, but with the business support they need to continue to grow and to provide the best client and patient care possible.

And while many of our team members have years of clinical veterinary experience, we believe strongly that patient care protocols and medical decisions should be left to the professionals. For this reason, each of the veterinarians and clinical teams across the Blue River family are encouraged to care for their patients as they see fit, retaining full medical autonomy following a sale.

We provide a custom acquisition path that’s friendly, respectful, and collaborative for practice owners seeking a secure partnership to expand their legacy.

Our practices maintain clinical autonomy with respect to the practice of medicine, including protocols, drug choices and vendors.

We provide a long-term home for practices seeking to maintain their community relationships and clinic culture while gaining the tools they need to expand their legacy.

We provide unparalleled back-of-house support that lets teams focus on delivering excellent care, and facilitate ongoing learning that builds careers.

Clinical Development Programs

At Blue River PetCare, we believe strongly in fostering the development of our veterinarians and clinical team members by offering a wide variety of RACE-approved clinical and professional skill development programs throughout the year. Our Clinical Development team is comprised of experienced veterinarians and technicians who are dedicated to ensuring clinical team members within the BRP family have the courses and tools they need to continue to further their education and expand their careers.

In addition to frequent CE events hosted by our vendor partners, the following programs are available to the Medical Directors, Associate Veterinarians, New Graduate Veterinarians, and Veterinary Technicians across the Blue River network.

Power Into Practice

Power Into Practice is an exclusive CE opportunity offered in partnership with Zoetis to early career Blue River PetCare veterinarians at the Oquendo Center in Las Vegas, NV. This annual 3-day program consists of hands-on instruction covering techniques in surgery, dentistry, anesthesiology, and dermatology. Participants engage with board-certified veterinary specialists through a combination of wet lab, Q&A, lecture, and round table discussion sessions, and have opportunities to connect with colleagues from across the Blue River network.

New Graduate Development Program

The New Graduate Veterinarian Program takes a three-part approach to supporting early career veterinarians as they transition into real-world practice. Initially, Medical Directors and new Associates receive recommendations and support for building mentoring relationships through the Veterinary Mentoring Program. Additionally, new graduate veterinarians are invited to build daily-use clinical skills and expand their networks of colleagues through the Power Into Practice hands-on learning program. In the program’s third component, new graduates are encouraged to participate in a 3-hour Introduction to Clinical Practice course that provides instruction on interpersonal and communication skills critical to success in practice.

Associate DVM Development Program

The Associate Veterinarian Development Course consists of four 1-hour RACE-accredited education modules designed to assist Associate Veterinarians in better managing wellbeing, communications, efficiency, and professional development in clinical practice. These modules can be completed individually or together as a complete program and provide learning and guided discussions to enhance existing non-clinical skills for daily practice.

Medical Director Leadership Program

The Medical Director Leadership Program is focused on building and improving the skills necessary to lead teams and ensure high-quality medicine within the practice. This 9-hour RACE accredited program assists Medical Directors in setting and reaching individual hospital medical goals by developing leadership, communication, change management, quality improvement, and other relevant skills. The program includes discussion-based and didactic components to share “Best Practices” among hospitals, create community between Medical Directors, and to support continuous improvement within Blue River practices.

Blue River PetCare offers a monthly RACE-approved virtual CE Series for veterinarians, presented by boarded specialists and key industry leaders.

Vet Tech Education & Scholarship Program

Blue River PetCare recognizes the value that dedicated and qualified support staff bring to our hospitals. To further support and develop the veterinary technicians within the organization, Blue River offers a scholarship program for professional veterinary technicians interested in pursuing an online Associate Degree in Veterinary Technology in preparation for the VTNE and subsequent licensure in their respective states.
