Clinical Development Programs Focused on Helping Our Teams Thrive

At Blue River PetCare, we strongly believe in fostering the development of our veterinarians and clinical team members by offering a wide variety of RACE-approved clinical, professional, and personal development programs throughout the year. Our Clinical Development team is comprised of experienced veterinarians and credentialed veterinary technicians who are dedicated to ensuring our clinical team members across the country have the courses and tools they need to continue to further their education and expand their careers.

In addition to frequent continuing education events, our Clinical Development team offers in-depth professional development programs for Practice Managers, Medical Directors, Veterinarians, Veterinary Technicians, and support staff across the Blue River PetCare family.

Practice Leadership Program

BRP Practice Leadership Workshop

This program is designed to build and enhance the leadership skills necessary to effectively manage a clinical team, optimize clinic operations, and ensure high-quality medicine within the practice. Participants will set individual practice goals and learn how to meet them through a series of topics surrounding communication, change management, quality improvement, and more. This program also includes a discussion-based element designed to share best practices, and create a community among Practice Managers and Medical Directors.

Veterinarian Guided Partnership Program

This program is designed to support the relationship between early career veterinarians and their Guiding Partner by offering resources on how to effectively support a new graduate veterinarian. During this program, partners focus on the fundamentals and process of early career growth, develop learning paths towards set goals, and learn how to encourage new graduates, with the intent of smooth integration into practice.

Veterinarian Programs

Associate Veterinarian Development Program

This program is designed for Associate Veterinarians who have been in practice for at least three years and offers two full days of medical lecture and hands-on wet lab, with two hours of change implementation and financial discussion. The medical portion of this program is led by a board-certified specialist or subject matter expert with topics such as dentistry and soft tissue surgery, or other interactive skill development areas. The lecture portion of this program is presented by members of the BRP Clinical Development Team with a focus on how to incorporate learned skills into the practice.

Power Into Practice

An exclusive hands-on CE opportunity offered to early career (<3 years experience) veterinarians within the Blue River PetCare network this intensive hands-on multi-day program is led by board-certified specialists and consists of wet labs and lectures in anesthesiology, surgery, dentistry, and dermatology. Critical to early career veterinarian growth, this program builds skills and confidence to improve medicine within our practices.

Foundations for Clinical Success

This program is held in conjunction with Power into Practice, and is designed to introduce interpersonal and communication skills, with a focus on leadership and best practices, to new graduates entering the real-world clinical environment. Additionally, this foundational program offers guidance and support for all-around personal and professional well-being.

NAVLE Support Program

The North American Veterinary Licensing Examination (NAVLE) is a critical step in the journey to becoming a licensed veterinarian. Successfully passing the NAVLE is a significant achievement that marks the transition from veterinary student to professional practitioner. However, preparing for such a rigorous examination can be challenging, and it is common to face adversity throughout the process.

Our NAVLE support program is designed to provide the resources, guidance, and encouragement future veterinarians need to succeed. Whether its study materials, mentorship from experienced veterinarians, or simply someone to talk to, our NAVLE Support Program is here for you every step of the way.

Maximizing the Guided Partnership Experience

This program focuses on assisting early career veterinarians in taking the lead in a Guided Partnership. Participants learn how to customize their individualized plan with their Guiding Partner in the practice, focusing on essentials such as setting goals, scheduling time for feedback, creating timelines, and providing exceptional patient and client care experience.

Veterinarian Continuing Education Series

Through this series, veterinarians across the Blue River PetCare family have access to monthly RACE-approved continuing education programs presented virtually by key industry leaders and board-certified specialists.

DVM Buddy Program

The BRP DVM Buddy Program has been formulated to provide new graduate Associate Veterinarians with support, guidance, and friendship, so that they may feel comfortable and connected as they transition into their role and practice. Additionally, this program can bring personal fulfillment, help enhance communication and leadership development, as well as bring fresh perspectives and insights for more established veterinarians.

This program can be defined as a flexible relationship between a newly graduated Associate Veterinarian and an established Associate Veterinarian that has volunteered to be part of the program.

Veterinary Technician Programs

Veterinary Technician Education & Scholarship Program

As part of our partnership with Penn Foster College, through this program, full-time clinical team members within the Blue River PetCare family who are interested in pursuing an online degree and credentialing in their state will have the opportunity to earn a full scholarship for the Penn Foster Associate Degree program. A discounted self-pay tuition program is also available.

In-Practice Training Program

Our Clinical Development Specialists are a team of credentialed veterinary technicians who work directly with our clinical team members across the country to provide hands-on skills training and knowledge building, with programs focused on mastering skills, increasing confidence, and building trust in ones abilities. Through this program, we help to improve team morale, retention, engagement, team competency and trust, while making a better patient and client experience.

Veterinary Technician & Veterinary Assistant Continuing Education Series

Through this series, clinical support team members across the Blue River PetCare family have access to monthly RACE-approved continuing education programs presented by key industry leaders, credentialed veterinary technicians, and experienced veterinarians.

Meet Our Clinical Development Team

Rebecca Arbesman, DVM

Director of Clinical Development

Rebecca Arbesman, DVM, is Blue River PetCare’s Director of Clinical Development as well as Medical Director of Carter Pet Hospital in St. Louis, MO. She originally joined the Carter Pet Hospital team in 2009 as an Associate Veterinarian, before taking on the role of Medical Director where she offers mentorship and guidance to the broader clinical team. Rebecca has a passion for teaching others and often mentors new graduates, assisting them with their transition to real-world practice and growth into confident and successful veterinarians. In her Clinical Development role, Rebecca puts her years of hospital and team management experience to use daily in the development of education opportunities for Medical Directors, as well as serves as a leader for the ever-growing Clinical Development team.

As a veterinarian, Rebecca's clinical interests include general medicine and soft tissue surgery. Prior to her veterinary career, Rebecca earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Missouri State, followed by her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at the University of Missouri-College of Veterinary Medicine. Outside of the clinic, she can be found cooking one of her favorite meals or watching a good movie. She also loves spending time with her family and their five dogs, seven cats, and three ferrets, at their home in Missouri.

Nina Duflo, DVM, CCRT

Clinical Development Manager

Nina Duflo, DVM, CCRT is a Clinical Development Manager at Blue River PetCare. Nina originally joined Blue River in 2017 as the Medical Director of a small animal practice in Michigan and has since joined the Clinical Development team where she supports the development and well-being of veterinarians across the organization through her years of clinical experience and passion for furthering the veterinary industry.

In her role as a Clinical Development Manager, Nina focuses on helping veterinarians develop and enhance their leadership and communication skills, providing guidance on improving workflow efficiency, and mentoring new medical directors.

Nina’s passion for animal care began at a young age when she would spend time helping on her family’s large agricultural farm. Her passion eventually turned into a career in veterinary medicine, beginning with her education at Michigan State University where she completed both her Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees. Nina’s clinical interests include soft tissue surgery, dentistry, and pain management, as well as canine rehabilitation, which led her to earn a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist certification in 2018. In her free time, you can find Nina reading a good book or spending time outdoors!

Suvi Irvine, PhD

Clinical Development Manager – Support Staff

Suvi Irvine, PhD, is a Clinical Development Manager at Blue River PetCare. Originally joining the Blue River family in 2018 as a Practice Manager of a small animal practice in Napa, California, Suvi’s commitment to all aspects of clinic wellness and operational excellence led her to her next role on the BRP Operations team, first as a Regional Operations Specialist, followed then by a role as a Senior Regional Operations Manager. Now a member of the BRP Clinical Development team, Suvi focuses her wealth of knowledge and experience on support staff training and leadership development programs surrounding professional and personal growth and wellbeing.

Before beginning her career in the veterinary field, Suvi attended the University of California-Berkeley, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, graduating with Honors. She then went on to obtain her Doctor of Philosophy at Johns Hopkins University, with a focus on Political Theory and minor in American Politics. When not traveling to support Blue River clinics, Suvi can be found spending time outdoors hiking, or enjoying her favorite wellness activity, teaching and practicing yoga. She is of course an avid animal lover, sharing her home with two dogs, Emerson and Larry David, and two cats, Atreyu and Aiko.

Melissa J. Supernor, LVT, CVT, VTS (SAIM), CCFP, CVBP, CFVP

Clinical Development Manager – Support Staff

Melissa J. Supernor, LVT, CVT, VTS (SAIM), CCFP, CVBP, CFVP is a Clinical Development Manager at Blue River PetCare. Mel joined the Blue River team in 2021 to further expand the educational programs and professional development opportunities offered to the veterinary technicians, veterinary assistants, and support team members across the organization.

Drawing on her passion for promoting education, Mel supports the education and growth of clinical team members through the development of programs such as the Veterinary Technician Education & Scholarship Program, which aims to provide scholarship and degree opportunities for Veterinary Technicians wishing to further their education in the field.

In addition to her passion for helping others achieve their education goals, Mel has accomplished many academic achievements of her own since becoming part of the veterinary field. She is a Certified Veterinary Technician, Licensed Veterinary Technician, and holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Worcester State University, as well as an Associate of Science in Veterinary Technology from Becker College. Additionally, Mel earned her Veterinary Technician Specialty in Small Animal Internal Medicine before going on to earn her CCFP, CVBP, CFVP, and AIHR certifications.

Anna Chanslor, RVT

Clinical Development Specialist

Anna Chanslor, RVT is a Clinical Development Specialist at Blue River PetCare, where she brings a wealth of experience and a passion for enhancing the veterinary field. Joining the Blue River family in 2023, Anna's primary focus lies in guiding practices and their teams through comprehensive trainings and workflow optimization, all of which is focused on fostering a higher quality of life for practice team members.

Prior to her role with the BRP Clinical Development team, Anna earned her degree from the Colorado Academy of Veterinary Technology in Colorado Springs, CO, and spent many years working as a veterinary technician and in other areas supporting the veterinary industry. Her journey in veterinary medicine led her to diverse experiences, including working in Zoo Medicine, where she cared for an array of animals—from orangutans and giraffes to Pallas cats and macaques. When she’s not working, Anna can be found traveling, reading, trying new restaurants, enjoying the Oregon Coast, or paddleboarding with her dogs!

Michelle (MKA) Krasicki-Aune, MBA, BS, CVT, FFCP-V

Clinical Development Specialist

Michelle (MKA) Krasicki-Aune, MBA, BS, CVT, FFCP-V, is a Clinical Development Specialist at Blue River PetCare, who joined the Clinical Development team in March 2024. She brings extensive experience and practical tips to advance support teams in veterinary medicine, with a particular focus on Fear Free methods.

Michelle’s veterinary career began at 15 years old when she worked as a kennel hand in a Chicago-area clinic, before working her way up to becoming a veterinary technician and eventually a Certified Veterinary Technician in 2003. Since then, she’s earned her bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Technology from North Dakota State University, and a Master of Business Administration degree with an emphasis on Veterinary Business from the Minnesota School of Business. She has been a Fear Free Certified Elite professional since 2019 and a Fear Free Practice Certification Consultant and Coach since 2020.

Michelle’s veterinary experience is diverse, spanning from general practice, academia, specialty and referral, urgent care, and emergency, plus a decade in veterinary technology education. She is the founder of Vet Teams, LLC, Minnesota’s first Certified Veterinary Technician relief organization. Michelle also served on the Executive Boards of the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America and the Minnesota Association of Veterinary Technicians. Her commitment to the field is also evident in her role as a mentor, providing in-clinic coaching and guidance. Beyond her professional life, Michelle enjoys raising hens, learning about beekeeping, and exploring warm, tropical destinations.
