How Much Is Your Veterinary Practice Worth?

Our process has always been about transparency and respect, and we tailor it to the unique nature of each practice we evaluate. Our team of business and veterinary professionals is here to answer any questions you may have as you consider  a veterinary practice appraisal or selling your practice.

It all starts with a conversation. Once you’ve submitted the valuation form, a member of our Business Development team will reach out to schedule a call. The goal is to learn more about your personal goals and how Blue River can help you achieve them.

Rest assured, all information you choose to share with us is kept strictly confidential.

Factors Determining Your Veterinary Practice Valuation

We know what question is likely top of mind: “How much is my veterinary practice worth?”
To develop that picture for you, we’ll need some information:

Financial Performance

We’ll ask for things like expense and revenue reports, as well as any data that shows overall trends within your practice. The more you share with us, the more accurately we can provide you with a valuation. We take your confidentiality seriously—this information is only used to complete the appraisal process.

Client Base Strength & Long-Term Growth Potential

Have you noticed an uptick in wellness visits? Do you struggle to get clients to book follow-up visits or dental care? Information about your day-to-day client schedule helps us better understand both strengths and areas of opportunity.

Staff Structure, Retention, & Operational Stability

We’ll want to learn more about your staffing structure—how many people do you employ at your practice? Do you have long-term employees who keep customers coming back? Getting to know your team and their strengths helps us properly appraise your veterinary practice.

Facility & Equipment Condition

What’s the physical state of your practice like? Did you recently upgrade your HVAC system? Invested in the latest diagnostic equipment? Or maybe you’ve recently remodeled the practice to improve the overall client and patient experience. These are all things that could increase the valuation.

Local Market Competition & Demand

Nobody knows your community better than you do. We’ll conduct research on competing hospitals in the area, but we’d love to hear directly from you about your local market and the overall demand for veterinary care.

Why Getting a Valuation Matters

A veterinary valuation is a vital step in ensuring you have a clear, concise view of your business’s current real-world value so you can plan for future growth, transitions, or an exit. Plus, the appraisal may show that you can retire sooner than you originally anticipated!

We know this isn’t something you take lightly, and we want you to be comfortable with the end result! While some outside parties charge valuation fees for their process, we do not. We believe you shouldn’t pay to have the most thorough, accurate valuation of your life’s work. In fact, if, after the valuation, you aren’t ready to proceed with the sale after the appraisal is finished, our evaluation team will still provide feedback on areas to focus on to improve practice value over time.

We’ll work with you to provide relevant feedback so you can take the right next steps for you and your practice.

We Have Answers for Your FAQs

How long does a veterinary valuation take?

We know you’re busy with the day-to-day of seeing patients and running your practice. Once our team receives the data needed to begin, you can typically expect the process to take a few weeks to complete. Once completed, a member of our team will walk you through the results, provide feedback, and, if desired, provide a detailed offer for the purchase of your practice.

Is my valuation confidential?

Yes! We take confidentiality seriously. Rest assured, any information you provide us with will not be shared.

What if I’m not ready to sell?

We understand! This isn’t an easy decision. The process can take as long as you need it to. You’ve spent time building your practice and getting to know your community and patients, and you want to make sure your staff are well taken care of, too. The valuation doesn’t bind you to a sale—it’s just a necessary step so you can have a full picture of your practice’s worth, empowering you to start thinking about your future options.

How can I get the most accurate veterinary valuation?

Our process is thorough, but it does depend on the information you’re willing to share. The more data you can provide, the more on-target the valuation will be.

When should I request a valuation?

Any time! The sooner you reach out, the sooner you’ll have a fuller view of your practice’s value.
