Carter Pet Hospital is a full-service veterinary facility located in Lake St. Louis, Missouri, with a compassionate and experienced staff that strives to provide the best possible care for their patients and excellent service to their clients. They are committed to promoting responsible pet ownership, preventative healthcare, health-related educational opportunities, and treating pets like the valued family members they are!

Carter Pet was also one of the first practices to join the Blue River PetCare community. Back-end support from the Blue River team encouraged their growth from the initial transition onward. The hospital has grown immensely since they joined the Blue River community.

“My experiences working with the Blue River support team are always positive. Everyone is always happy and does their job very well. If I need help with something, they’re always available,” says Rebecca Arbesman, DVM, Medical Director of Carter Pet Hospital.

Hospital Growth

Partnering with Blue River has allowed Carter Pet Hospital to grow in other ways, like expanding their practice building, receiving advanced training to provide the best possible care, and building community within the greater Blue River network:

Building Expansion

Carter Pet needed more room to treat more patients, expand their services, and make their patients and clients feel comfortable in their practice. Recognizing the hospital’s growth, Blue River saw that Carter Pet needed more space, so they supported the hospital in bringing their vision for a larger facility to life.

Blue River oversaw the construction project so the Carter Pet team could continue to focus on patient care, while enabling open communication between the crew and the local team to ensure everyone was on the same page throughout the project.  “Blue River was great,” says Prager. “Everyone knew what was going on, and we were able to put our personal touches that we really wanted on the building and for our clients to enjoy. In total, Carter Pet was able to add on four exam rooms, a dental suite, a surgery suite, isolation, and kennels.”

Career Growth & Training

Staying on top of continuing education, industry trends, and opportunities to expand your skillset is crucial for any veterinarian and clinical team members, and it’s something near and dear to Blue River. Carter’s own Dr. Arbesman now shares her expertise and commitment to education as the head of Blue River’s Clinical Development team.

“Blue River PetCare has helped our veterinarians grow their careers,” says Prager. “One of our team members—who is a new graduate—attended the Power into Practice clinical development program, and it really made a difference, helping her with building her skills and confidence.”

With more training and knowledge, Carter Pet’s doctors can perform more in-depth diagnostics, and their patients receive a higher level of medicine. Clinical development has impacted Carter Pet positively, ensuring their staff is well-trained and equipped to provide the best care possible.

Strengthening Community

The support of the Blue River community allows for Carter Pet Hospital to better support the community around them. “My favorite part of being a part of the Blue River PetCare community is just the support that I get as a practice manager,” Prager adds. “The support that I receive from the Blue River team really allows me to be the best practice manager that I can be, which then trickles down to our support staff and our veterinarians who are able to give the best medicine to our patients and really educate our clients at the same time.” Carter Pet even gives back to the St. Louis community by seeing all the local police dogs for check-ups.  community

Finding talented and knowledgeable veterinarians can be a challenge. The Blue River Talent Acquisition team has helped augment the Carter Pet staff by finding veterinarians and support staff that are a great fit for their team.

Operations

Blue River’s Field Operations team has worked closely with Carter Pet, being their go to for any questions about operations. Since I’ve been Practice Manager, I work a lot with the Field team. They re able to help me with client questions, staffing questions and flow of the clinic financials, says Elizabeth Prager, Practice Manager.

Marketing

From website improvement to promotions, the Blue River Marketing team has worked closely with Carter Pet to enhance and promote their brand. This close collaboration has allowed the Carter Pet team to participate in fun, local events where they’ve promoted their services.

BEING PART OF A COMMUNITY

My favorite part of being part of Blue River community is that, not only do I get to socialize and be a part of community where there's other doctors and people that I can learn from, but having financial support, accounting support and all other levels of support that require a veterinary hospital to be a veterinary hospital. Having a support system for all of that just makes the whole process so much more enjoyable.
